    BIOS:

Mike Stanger has dedicated the lion’s share of his legal career to assisting employers in navigating the maze of state and federal regulations governing the workplace.  After graduating from law school, Mike practiced management-side labor and employment law at the prestigious labor and employment boutique of Kamer Zucker & Abbott in Las Vegas, Nevada for two years before returning home to Utah.  A healthy portion of Mike’s practice is dedicated to compliance.  He drafts or reviews employee handbooks, NDAs, employment contracts, restrictive covenants, and employment policies and procedures.  He audits his client’s employment practices, and conducts sensitivity training.  He counsels on terminations and severance, union avoidance, workplace safety, and unfair labor practices.  Mike recently helped decertify a Teamsters bargaining unit in Weber County and is often asked to get involved in workplace investigations.  Mike advises on ADA accommodations, FMLA leave, FLSA exemptions, downsizing, and enforceability of noncompete agreements and regularly speaks to employer groups about new developments in the law.

When disputes arise, Mike provides vigorous representation at all stages of the litigation process—including trials, arbitrations, and mediations.

Jesse Oakeson is currently General Counsel/Director of Human Resources for Helpside, one of the largest professional employer organizations in Utah.  In that capacity, Jesse provides general counsel services to Helpside and HR support to hundreds of employers around the country.  Before accepting his current position in 2019, Jesse was a shareholder at Jones Waldo and a member of the firm’s Employment Group and Board of Directors where his practice focused on litigation and employment counseling.  He graduated with honors from BYU Law School in 2009 after attending BYU as an undergraduate.  Jesse is the current Employment Law Specialist for NUHRA.  Prior to that he served on the board as the Legislative Affairs Director.  He was named by Utah Business Magazine as one of Utah’s Legal Elite for 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.  Jesse was also included on the Mountain States Super Lawyers rising stars list for 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Mark Tolman is a shareholder at Jones Waldo, where he serves as co-Chair of the Firm’s Labor & Employment Practice Group.  Mark specializes in representing employers in matters before state and federal courts, the Utah Labor Commission, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.  Mark also works with employers to help them develop preventative employment practices and policies, including in-house employee training. Mark is licensed to practice law in Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming.  Mark also serves as Co-Director of Legal Affairs for Salt Lake SHRM and as the Legislative Director on the State SHRM Council.  In 2018, the Utah State Bar recognized Mark as the Employment Lawyer of the Year.  Mark and Jesse are both frequent presenters to HR professionals at SHRM and NUHRA meetings.
