Utah SHRM 2018 Student Case Competition

Students interested in Human Resources - this is your chance to put your HR knowledge to the test!   The Utah Human Resources State Council, offering a fun, competitive learning experience, sponsors this statewide competition and we encourage all to participate.

    • WHAT IS A CASE COMPETITION?

In this “realistic job preview” competition, team members leverage knowledge acquired through studies and apply it to a realistic HR situation likely to be encountered in the work world.   This competition requires integrated HR thinking, ethical decision-making, and strong communication and presentation skills.

Teams will analyze and solve a business case, and prepare both a written executive summary and 15-minute oral presentation within a 4-day timeframe to be presented to a panel of judges that in essence represent the Executive Team of an organization. Your goal is to present your recommendation to the Executive team as a potential solution to the problem presented. Written presentations are due prior to the competition to be judged separately and prior to the oral presentations.

Oral presentation rounds will be held at Weber State University – Davis Campus this year. Teams will compete by delivering their 15-minute oral presentation to a panel of judges and answering additional questions.  The judges will rate the oral and written presentations based on rubrics that will be provided with the case.  Please note that students will be presenting twice.

Cash prizes from UHRSC will be awarded to the top teams in the undergraduate and graduate divisions based on the total highest points from written materials and oral presentations – hopefully to contribute to their student chapter’s activities and events for the year.  This is your chance to represent your student chapter!
